Happy Thanksgiving blogger friends. We have had an eventful Thanksgiving week to say the least.

For those of you who do not know on Monday around 11:00 am Adalyn started running a fever. She ran a fever all day off and on. At about 2:00 am it spiked to 104 so we took her to the ER. They did a blood and urine culture and her urine came back with a bacteria so she was diagnosed with a UTI. They did a round of IV antibiotics and sent us home with an oral antibiotic for 10 days.

They wrapped cool towels around her head to get her fever down. It was a very scary several hours for Matt and me.

I stayed home with her on Tuesday and around 4:00 pm the hospital called and told us to bring her back. Her blood culture came back with a bacteria as well and she needed IV antibiotics. She was admitted to the hospital.

She is doing great and has been fever free since Tuesday morning so that means the antibiotics are working which is great. The doctor did say since she is so young they are being more aggressive than they would be with an older child who has a more developed immune system.

Therefore, based on her blood work it was decided that the best course of action is 10 days of IV antibiotics. Since regular IVs only last 2-5 days the best way to administer the antibiotics for that many days is to input a PICC line. A PICC line is basically a long IV that goes up her arm and into her chest. The good thing about a PICC line is it will allow us to go home and have a nurse come to our home everyday to administer the antibiotics. The biggest risk with a PICC line is they will have to sedate her which is never fun. The issue is due to the holiday and weekend we can not get the PICC line until Monday so we will be in the hospital until then for sure. Since by Monday she will have been on the antibiotic for 7 days already we may forgo the PICC line and just stay three more days so we can avoid the sedation. We will watch the IV in her hand to see how it is holding up and make our decision then. It is frustrating that we have to wait but we have no other choice so we are dealing with it.

A special thank you to our parents who have been taking care of Carter and Brooklyn. We are also very thankful for the doctors and nurses who are taking such good care of our girl and who are away from their families on this holiday so they can take care of our little one.

Even though they can't be together today my little twinkies are still sporting their matching Thanksgiving outfits.

And of course big brother had to join in the fun as well. Not sure what is going on with his hair. I guess that's what happens when mommy isn't home. :)
